Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown
The Casper Wave Hybrid is a hybrid model made up of multiple different kinds of foam layers on top of foam-encased pocketed coils.
The mattress cover uses a blend of recycled polyester, cotton, rayon, and lycra. The cotton is included for its breathability and temperature-regulating properties. The recycled polyester is an eco-friendly material made in part by recycling bottles into fabric.
The comfort system is constructed of three distinct layers. A top layer uses 1 inch of open-cell polyfoam that allows cooling airflow while cushioning the sleeper. The next layer is 1.5 inches of open-cell latex. This material is perforated for greater air circulation. Next, a 1.5 inches of zoned memory foam conforms to the sleeper’s body, taking pressure off heavier body parts.
A transition layer of 1.5 inches of polyfoam with targeted gel pods acts as a buffer between the comfort system and the core. Gel pods rest in grooves in the polyfoam to give extra support around the sleeper’s midsection while allowing their shoulders to sink in more. This is crafted to support improved spinal alignment.
The Wave Hybrid has a support core that is 7-inches thick in total. The mattress uses a 6-inch layer of pocketed coils surrounded by polyfoam to support the sleep surface while adding more bounce, breathability, and edge support.
The bed rates at around 5 on the 10-point firmness scale, meaning it has a medium feel. This is on the soft end of the average range that most sleepers tend to prefer.
The Wave Hybrid is a high-profile model measuring 13 inches thick, so it may require extra deep sheets. The extra thickness may also make it easier for individuals with mobility issues to get into and out of bed.
Mattress Prices and Sizing
The Casper Wave Hybrid is a luxury model. As such, it comes in at a higher price point than average for hybrid mattresses. While the extra expense may be intimidating, the Wave Hybrid also tends to be more durable than many similarly constructed mattresses. Since it may hold up better over time, it could ultimately be a better value than some lower-priced options.
The Casper Wave Hybrid comes in all the standard mattress sizes. We’ll list the prices of each mattress size below. However, shoppers should keep in mind that Casper frequently runs promotions that could help them save money on a Wave Hybrid.

The Wave Hybrid isolates motion to a greater extent than many hybrid mattresses on the market.
The multilayer comfort system absorbs a significant amount of motion. The zoned memory foam and polyfoam layers further reduce the amount of motion that reaches the coil core. Since springs have more bounce to them than most foam, coil layers sometimes transfer motion. However, the Wave Hybrid uses pocketed coils encased in foam, which move separately from each other to limit motion transfer. Additionally, the thick foam layers diminish the movement that reaches the core and vibrations that may emanate from the core.
The Wave Hybrid’s strong motion isolation may reduce overnight disturbances that result from one partner moving during the night.
The Wave Hybrid uses a thick comfort system that balances conforming and support. This gives the Wave Hybrid stronger pressure relief than many hybrid mattresses.
The substantial comfort system spreads out the sleeper’s weight so that pressure is less likely to build up around wider, heavier body parts.
While the Wave Hybrid’s comfort system provides significant contouring, two layers are zoned to promote better spinal alignment. Gel pods in the midsection of the bottom layer lift the sleeper’s hips so that they don’t sink in too deeply.
The Wave Hybrid is also softer than many hybrids on the market, which further amplifies the contouring that sleepers are likely to experience.
With multiple features engineered to dissipate heat, the Wave Hybrid has stronger temperature regulation than most hybrid mattresses.
The top two layers of the comfort system use open-cell materials, which are quite breathable. Both layers are also perforated to allow additional air circulation within the mattress.
The largest source of airflow comes from the pocketed coil support core. As with other hybrids, this makes the bed significantly cooler than all-foam models.
The Wave Hybrid has moderate edge support, which is on par with most hybrid models.
The mattress features support foam that wraps around the outside of the coil layer to reinforce the perimeter. The thicker comfort layers may allow some sinkage before an individual reaches the edge reinforcement. However, this should not be significant enough to limit the usable surface of the mattress and most individuals are likely to feel secure sitting or sleeping near the edge.
Ease of Movement
The Wave Hybrid’s ease of movement is comparable to, if not better than, many other hybrid models.
A relatively thick comfort system conforms closely to the sleeper’s body. For some individuals, this may make it more challenging to change position or move across the surface of the bed.
While the thicker comfort system may create the sensation of sleeping “in” the bed rather than “on” the bed, most individuals likely won’t experience the “trapped in the bed” feeling sometimes associated with thick comfort layers. Additionally, the Wave Hybrid’s coil core gives extra support and bounce, which may make it feel more responsive.
SexThe Wave Hybrid balances bounce and conforming, which may be conducive to sexual activity.
Like other hybrid models, the Wave Hybrid’s coil core gives it bounce. Many couples enjoy a responsive surface for sex, so this extra springiness may be beneficial. Traction comes from the thick comfort system. Since the Wave Hybrid is quite quiet, couples can be discreet.
Off-GassingOdor is common with new mattresses, especially in those with synthetic foams. These odors are usually due to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are released into the air. These chemicals and odors are generally considered harmless for most people and do not usually last.
Many owners choose to air out their new mattress before using it to allow these smells to dissipate. Most off-gassing odors air out within a few hours to a few days if you leave the mattress in a well-ventilated room.
Like most other hybrid models, the Wave Hybrid may emit a slight odor when first unpackaged. Because the Wave Hybrid is exceptionally breathable thanks to the perforated layers in the comfort system and the coil core, these odors may air out more quickly than average.
Sleeping Style and Body Weight
The Wave Hybrid’s close conforming comfort system coupled with the targeted support of its zoned layers can relieve sharp pressure points from side sleeping while encouraging good spinal alignment.
Because the hips and shoulders tend to be the widest parts of the body, side sleepers frequently experience pressure points around these body parts. The Wave Hybrid’s soft, thick multilayer comfort system spreads out body weight more evenly to relieve these pressure points. The zoned foam layer with gel pods gives more support to the midsection of the sleeper’s body to reduce the risk of their hips sinking in excessively.
The Wave Hybrid’s medium feel is likely to provide a strong balance of pressure relief and support for side sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds. Sleepers over 230 pounds tend to prefer firmer mattresses with more support. When sleeping on their sides on the Wave Hybrid, individuals in this weight group could experience more pressure buildup and sinkage, particularly around their hips.
The Wave Hybrid can provide excellent support for back sleepers under 130 pounds. However, it is less supportive for individuals who weigh more.
To maintain proper spinal alignment, back sleepers usually require a relatively even surface that doesn’t sag. The Wave Hybrid’s zoned layers can help reduce sagging around the midsection of the mattress, which may be beneficial to back sleepers.
However, the medium feel of the mattress may allow heavier individuals to sink in more, which may put their spines out of alignment. This effect is likely to be less noticeable for back sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds, who may still find the Wave Hybrid quite comfortable. However, sleepers over 230 pounds are more likely to experience sinkage around their midsections.
Stomach sleepers usually require a mattress that does not allow for excessive sinkage around their midsection, where many individuals carry more weight. If the sleeper’s midsection dips too deeply into the mattress, it may put more strain on their spine, leading to aches and pains.
The Wave Hybrid’s second zoned layer uses gel pods to reinforce the middle of the mattress, reducing how far a stomach sleeper’s midsection can sink in. While this targeted support may make the Wave Hybrid better suited to stomach sleeping than some hybrid mattresses, the medium feel and thick comfort layers could be a drawback for some individuals.
The stomach sleeper’s midsection can sink in quite a bit before reaching the zoned layer. Additionally, the medium feel is softer than ideal for many stomach sleepers, especially heavier individuals. However, stomach sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds are likely to find the Wave Hybrid sufficiently firm and supportive.
